Filthy Bilge Rats The World of Greyhawk & The World of Greyhawk Wiki The current year for our World of Greyhawk campaign is set during 579CY. Inspired By Gary Gygax

The Filthy Bilge Rats are a loose but vicious guild of dockside thieves who infest Portown’s harbor, warehouse district, and northern streets. Made up of smugglers, cutpurses, drunken sailors, cargo handlers, and common waterfront ruffians, they prey upon merchants and newly arrived adventurers who do not yet know which alleys to avoid. The Bilge Rats specialize in pilfering unattended cargo, breaking into warehouses, fencing stolen goods, and quietly moving contraband through the harbor aboard cooperative fishing boats and merchant vessels. Their members favor patched clothing and tar-stained cloaks, allowing them to pass unnoticed among ordinary dockworkers, and many bear a crude rat-shaped brand somewhere on their bodies. Although considered filthy rabble by the other guilds, the Bilge Rats know every sewer, cellar, hidden quay, and abandoned building along the waterfront—and rumors persist that their leaders pay certain members of the militia to ensure their crimes remain uninvestigated.

« B/X D&D »

B/X stands for Basic/Expert D&D, which is a two-part boxed-set ruleset originally published by TSR in 1981.

Key features:
B/X Dungeons & Dragons is an edition of the original Dungeons & Dragons game, it was designed to provide rules and flexible procedures for fantasy adventures.

• The Basic Set (Red/Magenta Box): This was edited by Tom Moldvay in the year 1981, this set covers dungeon crawling adventures for character levels 1 through 3.
• The Expert Set (Blue Box): This was edited by David Cook and Steve Marsh in 1981, this set expands the game into wilderness travel, hex crawling, and high-level play up to level 14 (and even beyond).
• Race as Class: In B/X, non-human races like Dwarves, Elves, Halflings etc function as their own character classes rather than separate choices from a profession.
• Procedural Play: The B/X D&D game relies on strict mechanics for tracking time, wandering monsters, and resource management.
• Reaction & Morale: Dungeon Masters use explicit dice rolls to see how monsters react to the party (instead of assuming instant combat is the first course of action) and if monsters lose the will to fight and flee.
• Clear Presentation: B/X Dungeons & Dragons divides the game between the Basic & Expert rulebooks, making the system more approachable for beginners while gradually introducing a more broader campaign play.
• House Ruling: Because B/X D&D shares core foundations with other systems like BECMI, Old-School Essentials, and early Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (1st edition), and it is very easy to add many house rules, new classes from other systems, new monsters, advanced spells, and various other mechanics from other compatible systems.
