Westbridge Bank
The World of Greyhawk & The World of Greyhawk Wiki
The current year for our World of Greyhawk campaign is set during 579CY.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

Westbridge Bank stands near the old stone bridge, its thick walls and iron-bound shutters setting it apart from the village’s timber-framed shops. Inside, Endar Jellric works behind a narrow counter with brass scales, coin weights, and carefully kept ledgers close at hand.

Travelers arriving from Portown or Saltmarsh bring him unfamiliar coins, while local merchants stop to settle accounts before taking their goods farther inland. Endar weighs worn coins, checks suspicious pieces, and exchanges foreign currency for coin accepted in Westbridge.

He charges a modest fee and records larger transactions in his ledgers. His deliberate manner can test the patience of travelers in a hurry, but villagers trust his figures. When two people disagree over a payment, they often bring the coins to Endar for his judgment.

The bank also holds money and valuables for safekeeping. Farmers deposit savings after the harvest, merchants leave strongboxes while traveling dangerous roads, and villagers sometimes entrust Endar with deeds or family keepsakes.

He records each deposit and gives its owner a signed receipt. Endar lends money sparingly; he knows that his first obligation is to return what people have placed in his care. At dusk, Endar closes the shutters and checks every lock himself. Few people know how much lies in the bank’s strongroom, though that has never stopped speculation at the Happy Halfling.

Endar has seen Westbridge endure floods, lean harvests, and raids, and he takes quiet pride in keeping one thing certain: when his neighbors come for their savings, he intends to have them ready. He is very well respected and liked by the overall community.
