The Copper Mug Inn
The World of Greyhawk & The World of Greyhawk Wiki
The current year for our World of Greyhawk campaign is set during 579CY.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

The Copper Mug Inn is one of Westbridge’s older gathering places, with a spacious common room framed by heavy wooden posts and dark ceiling beams. Years of smoke have stained the rafters, and countless muddy boots have worn the floorboards smooth. Narrow windows admit only slivers of daylight, leaving candles and hanging lanterns to illuminate the tables.

Even during the afternoon, the room holds a deep, quiet gloom that makes a seat near the light especially inviting. A long wooden bar occupies one side of the common room, with stools drawn beneath its scarred counter. Shelves behind it hold bottles, earthenware vessels, and drinking cups, while several small casks rest above them. The inn serves local ale, orchard cider, and a modest selection of spirits brought upriver or purchased from coastal merchants.

Meals are simple and generous: thick vegetable stew, river fish, cold meat, and bread from Hearthstone Bakery, served according to what the kitchen has available. The owner, Daven Rusk, is a lean man in his late fifties with close-cut gray hair, a crooked little finger, and a patient manner. He rarely interrupts a conversation, but remembers enough of what he hears to recognize trouble when it returns through his door.

Daven keeps the bar orderly and expects guests to settle their disputes without damaging his furniture. His welcome is understated—a clean mug, a place to sit, and a question about whether the traveler has eaten. A wooden staircase at the back leads to an upper gallery overlooking the common room. Behind the gallery stand five guest rooms, each furnished with a plain bed, a washbasin, wall pegs, and a small chest for belongings.

Two rooms contain an additional narrow bed for companions traveling together. The doors have simple interior bolts, and thick wool blankets help against the drafts that creep through the old building. Guests near the gallery can hear conversation below until Daven calls the last orders. The Hearthstone draws ferrymen, laborers, and villagers who favor a familiar table and an evening without much ceremony.

Travelers sometimes find it quieter than the Fireside, particularly when merchants and wagon crews fill the village’s primary inn. News passes here in low voices over half-finished mugs: an unfamiliar boat at the landing, livestock missing from a riverside pasture, or a road best avoided after dark. As the candles burn down, chairs scrape across the floor and neighbors depart together, leaving Daven to bolt the door and prepare the room for another day.
