Westbridge is a small but stubborn settlement standing along the eastern bank of the Javan River in the southern reaches of Keoland, ruled by Mayor Bramwell Harker. The village takes its name from the old stone bridge carrying the coastal road across a narrow branch of the river. This crossing links the farms and woodlands of the interior with Portown and, farther south, the markets of Saltmarsh.
Though easily overlooked on a map of Salinmoor, Westbridge occupies an important position between the settled coast and the increasingly dangerous frontier. The village consists of a close gathering of timber-framed cottages, workshops, barns, and weathered stone buildings surrounded by orchards, cultivated fields, and muddy pastureland.
Narrow lanes wind between the buildings before joining the main road near the bridge. River mist frequently blankets Westbridge at dawn, muffling the sounds of carts and livestock, while the mournful cries of marsh birds drift in from the low country to the east. During heavy rains, the river swells against its banks, leaving the surrounding roads churned into deep mud.Westbridge serves as a stopping place for merchants, fishermen, royal messengers, and travelers moving through western Salinmoor. Flat-bottomed riverboats tie up at its modest landing to unload grain, timber, salt fish, and barrels of Keoish ale. The settlement supports a smithy, a general mercantile, a small chapel, several craftsmen, and a crowded coaching inn where news from Saltmarsh is exchanged alongside darker rumors from the wilderness. Most villagers earn their living through farming, fishing, logging, or tending the horses and wagons passing through town.
Life in Westbridge is rarely peaceful. Bandits haunt the forest roads, orc raiders descend from the wilder lands beyond the settled countryside, and marauders sometimes cross the Javan in search of livestock and plunder. The village has no permanent garrison and must rely upon a poorly equipped militia of farmers, hunters, ferrymen, and retired soldiers.

A stout wooden watchtower overlooks the bridge, and its warning bell is rung whenever smoke, armed riders, or unfamiliar boats are spotted. When danger becomes too great, the villagers barricade the bridge and gather inside the settlement’s strongest buildings until help can be summoned from outside settlements. Despite these hardships, Westbridge possesses a rough warmth that outsiders often find surprising.
Its people are cautious with strangers but generous toward those who earn their trust, bound together by generations of shared danger and mutual dependence. Welcome travelers will find warm hearths, hot meals, and locals willing to tell stories of abandoned farmsteads, hidden bandit camps, forgotten shrines, and strange lights seen across the river after nightfall.
Westbridge may appear insignificant on the maps of the Kingdom of Keoland, but the settlement stands where civilization holds by a narrow thread―a place where capable adventurers can quickly become celebrated defenders or merely more names carved upon the village memorial.
